In early February 2018 it was our great pleasure to welcome partners from all around the world for a four day training event on our updated Omilia speech technology development tools. The event was a resounding success which would not have been possible without the participation of our fantastic partners including DisruptCX, Nice inContact, Nuecho, Speech Soft, KCell, Nova IT, EvoTech, CTI and Grupo GBI. Thank you everyone for making it such a great time in Athens. Below is the official program of the training seminars along with a highlight video, more videos coming soon!

Below is the published schedule for the 2018 Omilia training seminars including details on the main training courses delivered and the instructors. Every course was informative for all with a lot of insights coming out during the QA sessions. Special mention must go to Mr. Nikos Kolivas who was responsible for the Dev sessions introducing the new Omilia Conversation Studio Tool. The Conversation Studio allows non programmers to easily design, test and deploy custom dictionaries, context rules and intents in minutes. Contact us for a demonstration!

360° Omilia Delivery Overview

360° Overview (overview_101)
Instructor: Nikos Kolivas
Duration: 2 hours

Description: Participants will be introduced to the typical architecture of a natural language dialogue system. They will learn about the key components (VB, ASR, NLU, DM, NLG, TTS, IVR) of an NLU solution and the connections among them. In addition, they will familiarize themselves with the system’s life-cycle, starting from the requirements and design phase to the final fine tuning stage, focusing on tools, methodology, deliverables and testing traits that are particular to an NLU application. Finally, they will use Omilia’s Dialog Review Tool to get a thorough understanding of each component’s contribution to the dialog based on real-life examples. At the end of the course they will be able to identify the different error types and sources in dialog and recommend next steps for resolution.

Application Development Training

Instructor: Nikos Kolivas
Assistant: George Psallidas
Duration: 6 hours

Description: Students will gain hands-on experience in creating their own conversational application. They will develop several Dialog Manager call flows, working on a demo application, in order to serve simple & complex customer requests as well as complete Self Service flows, thus familiarizing themselves with the notions of dialog targets, fields, actions, and intents among others.

Skills Required: Should have analytical skills and be native speakers. There is no requirement for Programming Skills in any programming language, however, familiarity with IVR applications is an advantage. Students should have already attended appdev_101.

NLU Development Training

NLU Dev Overview (nlu_101)
Instructor: Nikos Kolivas
Assistant: Sofia Kasviki
Duration: 3 hours

Description: Students will be introduced to the basic components of Omilia’s interpretation module and understand how it fits to the overall architecture of the dialog system. They will learn the process of analyzing and mapping out the interpretation domain. They will be introduced to the basic concepts of annotations, features and types, as well as the knowledge representation schemas for identifying user intent.

Skills Required: Both analytical and synthetical skills, experience with development of semantic rules is an advantage.

NLU Dev Workshop (nlu_102)
Instructor: Nikos Kolivas
Assistant: Sofia Kasviki
Duration: 6 hours

Description: Students will gain hands-on experience on building an NLU Engine on Omilia’s Conversation Studio. They will develop dictionaries, entities, context rules & intents which will be tested on the spot with the tool’s Dialog Simulator or in a demo application provided (or one that they have already build from the appdev_102).

Skills Required: Both analytical and synthetical skills, experience with development of semantic rules is an advantage. Students should have already attended nlu_101.

ASR Tuning and Optimization Training

deepASR® Tuning & Optimization Workshop (asr_101)
Instructor: Iason Roumeliotis
Assistant: Sofia Kasviki
Duration: 4 hours

Description: The students will learn the basic components of an ASR system (VAD model, acoustic models, language models, ASR system architecture, pronunciation lexicons). They will be introduced to the key concepts of statistical language modeling and grammar development and learn about important parameters that affect recognition accuracy. They will familiarize themselves with different speech grammar approaches and how to address complex recognition tasks. They will be introduced to industry standard KPIs for measuring recognition accuracy and how to use deepASR® engine’s tuning tools.

Skills Required: Familiarity with Unix environments and experience using command line tools. Basic knowledge of language modeling for speech recognition is an advantage.

Back-end and API Integration Training

DiaManT® Back-end API Overview (api_101)
Instructor: George Stoupis
Assistant: Dimitris Zabakolas
Duration: 4 hours

Description: The attendees will learn how DiaManT® can integrate with any backend system through Java, via the DiaManT® API. They will be able to build, compile and call their custom code through a DiaManT® NLU dialog application. DiaManT®’s NLG modules will provide the API users with the ability to synthesise complex natural language prompts. By the end of this course, they will be able to fully integrate their NLU applications with their own backend system, and take full advantage of DiaManT®’s capabilities.
